The Shared Government Data Centre is a digital infrastructure initiative under the Government’s Public Service ICT Strategy to provide required critical state infrastructure. The Data Centre will deliver high-quality energy efficient Data Centre facilities for Public Service Bodies, which are fit for purpose and are capable of meeting the Government's technology and energy saving requirements now and in the future. It is also an important element of the Government’s strategic framework for fostering technology innovation and excellence across public services in Ireland.

Following the successful completion of a procurement process in 2022 the 28 month Data Centre construction project began in Q1 2023. The amount spent on the construction of the Data Centre as of 6th February 2025 is € 59,973,109. The construction budget amount is commercially sensitive. However the project is forecast to come in on budget and the construction is on schedule to be completed in May 2025. Approximately 50% of the cost of the Government Data Centre has been secured under the EU's National Resilience and Recovery Programme (NRRP).

The new Shared Government Data Centre will provide secure, green operations that will future-proof the reliable delivery of essential digital services to the public. The intention is to develop a hybrid model, utilising the Government Data Centre, which combines Government and commercial cloud technology in an optimised way as part of the Government’s wider digital strategy.
