To ask the Minister for Public Expenditure and Reform if he is concerned that a conflict of interest may exist in relation to the Minister of State for the OPW’s involvement in a High Court case relating to an OPW property in Lissywollen; what steps he will take to address this; and if he will make a statement on the matter. The Commissioners of Public Works (OPW) own lands at Lissywollen on the outskirts of Athlone. In 2024, following a request from the then Department of Children, Equality, Disability, Integration and Youth (DCEDIY), the OPW granted a licence to that Department to carry out works to the site for the provision of accommodation for International Protection Applicants in accordance with the Ministerial order signed by the Minister for DCEDIY in October 2024.

In my capacity as a councillor, prior to my re-election to the Dáil, I was involved in addressing local concerns about the use of the property in Lissywollen.

I am acutely aware of my responsibilities as a Minister of State. I can assure the Deputy that I am not a party to the litigation that is currently before the courts and therefore, no conflict of interest arises in this instance.
