The information requested by the Deputy in relation to the payments made by the Department of Finance to the Climate Action Fund as required under Circular 01/2020 (Procedures for Offsetting the Emissions Associated with Official Air Travel) for 2020, 2021, 2022 and 2023 is provided in tabular form.

The annual payment to the Climate Action fund is due on February 28th of the following year, therefore no payment has been made yet in relation to travel undertaken in 2024 and 2025.

It should be noted that the carbon emissions associated with commercial flights are calculated with the use of the carbon calculator developed by the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO).

The use of the ICAO calculator is not appropriate for determining the greenhouse gas emissions associated with the use of the Government Jet. The carbon emissions associated with the Department’s use of the Government Jet are estimated as 2 tonnes per hour of flight time, in accordance with Circular 01/2020.
