The Teaching Council registers teachers under the Teaching Council Act 2001-2015 and in line with the . As set out in the Schedule of the Regulations, the Council registers teachers under five routes of registration: Route 1 - Primary, Route 2 - Post-primary, Route 3 - Further Education, Route 4 - Other and Route 5 - Student Teacher. The registration requirements for each route are set out in the . The Department has no role in relation to individual applications.

The Teaching Council have informed me that the person that the Deputy is referring to in this query applied for registration under Route 3- Further Education on 3 September 2024. The application was considered by the Council’s Qualifications Panel in November 2024. Having considered all documentation and information supplied, it concluded that the applicant did not meet the qualification requirements for Route 3 as stipulated in the Regulations. Therefore, registration was not granted.

The decision letter issued to the applicant advised that if they were not satisfied with this decision that they had the option to request a review of decision within 21 days. To date, they have not applied for a review of decision. Should they wish to apply for a review of decision they should do so immediately by completing the review of decision form that was issued to them.
