ETBs are responsible for the administration of pension schemes in relation to their employees and they maintain the relevant employment and pension records of their employees.

The relevant ETB has confirmed that the person concerned worked for them on various occasions between 2001 and 2007 with their service being, in the main, part time substitution service. Following a request from the Pension Unit of my department, the person’s ETB service was calculated by the ETB's pensions team in line with normal procedures, and the information required to transfer their service for pension purposes was issued to the Pension Unit in June 2022. This transfer was accepted by the department at the time.

The ETB calculated the cost of the person's transferred service in accordance with the rules of the pension scheme. Notional salary rates were used for calculating pension contributions owing on part time service and these rates should not be confused with actual earnings as per the person's pay slips and tax documentation.

In order for the person concerned to receive pension benefits from my department, they are required to submit an application form to the Pension Unit. This form is available on my department’s website and was previously sent directly to the person concerned.

If the person remains dissatisfied with this matter, it is open to them to contact the ETB and invoke the internal disputes resolution procedures.
