133. To ask the Minister for Transport, Tourism and Sport to provide an update on all transport upgrades planned under the revised NDP in Kerry; which projects are prioritised for commencement; which projects are underway and when he expects them to be completed; which projects have not yet commenced and when he expects them to be commenced, broken down in tabular form; and if he will make a statement on the matter. I wish to advise the Deputy that, as Minister for Transport, I am fully committed to progressing key transport infrastructure projects under the National Development Plan 2021-2030.
As the Deputy may be aware, the Government has, in the Programme for Government 2025, committed to prioritising an early review of the National Development Plan, to be completed in July 2025. This review will be led through the Department of Public Expenditure, NDP Delivery and Reform (soon to be renamed as the Department of Public Expenditure, Infrastructure, Public Service Reform and Digitalisation). With respect to Transport, among other things, this review may consider:
- the capacity of the NDP funding envelope to deliver on existing and strategically important transport infrastructure commitments, and meet the funding needs of new or accelerated potential projects and programmes;
- possible new public transport projects;
- enhanced rail infrastructure;
- possible new Roads Projects;
- further investment in light rail in our cities.
Until such time as the review is completed, I would refer the Deputy to the Project 2040 Tracker where progress on projects ongoing under the current National Development Plan, including in those specifically in Co. Kerry, can be found on the Project Ireland 2040 interactive map: )
