Respite services for people with disabilities are provided through specialist disability services which now come under the remit of the Department of Children, Equality, Disability, Integration and Youth (DCEDIY) who provide funding to the HSE who in turn have a number of service agreements with different disability organisations for the provision of some respite services.

Neuro-rehabilitation services take place in a range of settings. DCEDIY are responsible for the continued implementation of the neuro-rehabilitation Strategy and its community delivery. The Department of Health are responsible for hospital based rehabilitation services. In both cases, the funding arrangements are the same as for respite, i.e the Departments secure funding for the HSE in the first instance.
