To ask the Minister for Housing, Planning, and Local Government the number of homes that went sale agreed in 2024; how many of these were apartments and how many were houses; the number bought by individuals; the number bought by institutions; the number bought by local authorities; how many of the individuals that bought these homes were first-time buyers; and if he will make a statement on the matter. My Department does not collect data in respect of homes that are sale agreed.
That said, data on the number of residential properties purchased are published monthly by the CSO and can be accessed on its website at . These data are disaggregated by type of dwelling (new or existing) and by buyer type (first-time buyer owner-occupier, former owner-occupier, household non-occupier, and non-household buyer).
Separately, the CSO publishes additional data on an annual basis on non-household purchasers of residential property. This includes purchases by private companies, charitable organisations and State bodies, with the data disaggregated by economic sector.
