As the Deputy is aware, an ecological consultant was appointed to consider the potential positive and negative ecological impacts of the proposed removal of the 'pinch points' on the River Shannon between Athlone and Meelick Weir. This work is nearly complete and a draft report will be submitted to the Shannon Flood Risk State Agency Co-ordination Working Group for consideration at its next meeting in April 2025.

The final approved report will be published in due course.
