The Labour Force Survey (LFS) is the official source of estimates of employment in the State. The most recent figures available are for Q3 2024. The tables for this response use Q2 as the reference period for the year.

Due to the methodology and sample size of the survey it is not possible to produce reliable county estimates from the LFS. Regional estimates of employment are produced by NUTS 3 level. NUTS are the geocode standard developed and regulated by Eurostat.

The NUTS 3 Mid-West region includes counties Clare, Tipperary, Limerick City and County.

The current NUTS 3 classification for Ireland, incorporating changes made under the Local Government Act 2014, is available from 2012 onwards in respect of LFS statistics.

Table 1 shows the total number of persons in employment (ILO) in the Mid-west region 15-89 years, Q2 2012 – Q2 2024.
