Invalidity Pension (IP) is a payment for people who are permanently incapable of work because of illness or incapacity and for no other reason and who satisfy the pay related social insurance (PRSI) contribution conditions.
My Department received an application for IP from the person concerned on 10 January 2025. Based on the information supplied, the application was refused on the grounds that the medical conditions for the scheme were not satisfied. The person referred to was notified on 21 January 2025 of the decision, the reasons for it and of her right of review and/or appeal.
In order to carry out a review of the decision to refuse her application, the person in question can submit additional medical evidence in support of her claim to the effect that she is permanently incapable of doing all types of work. Should the decision to refuse her application remain unchanged following the review, she will still have the option of further review or she can appeal the decision to the Social Welfare Appeals Office within 21 days.
I hope this clarifies the position for the Deputy.
