My Department can confirm that the school referred to by the Deputy was granted approval for the provision of two mainstream classrooms under the Department's Devolved Special Education Needs (SEN) Reconfiguration and Modular Accommodation programme. This project is to replace two existing classrooms at the school. This Reconfiguration and Modular Accommodation programme involves the use of Project Management supports which is designed to enable the accommodation to be provided as quickly as possible and help ease the administrative workload for school authorities in relation to the management and delivery of projects.

A Project Management company was appointed from the Department’s procurement framework to design and tender the project and they will keep the school authority updated regularly as the project progresses. The Department has a significant modular accommodation programme in place to assist schools in the provision of additional capacity, including in respect of facilitating the establishment of special classes and replacement of existing accommodation.

The consideration of the accommodation requirements for this school forms part of the Planning and Building Unit’s overall assessment of its work programme and priorities in the context of available capital funding. Department officials also continue to engage with the school and its patron with respect to its long-term accommodation needs, in the context of particular technical constraints with the school site. This matter is ongoing at present and the department expects to be in further contact with the school authority shortly.
