As the Deputy may be aware, the purpose of the Summer Works Scheme (SWS) is to devolve funding to individual school authorities to undertake small-scale building works which, ideally, can be carried out during the summer months or at other times that avoid disrupting the operation of the school. The Summer Works Scheme plays an important role in the maintenance and upgrade of the condition of our schools.

The project to which the Deputy refers is a roof repairs project which has been subject to ongoing engagement by my Department. However, due to the complex nature of the project and the fact that the school is involved in a number of building projects, the SWS project has to been considered in this wider lens. Whilst my Department continues to work through and progress the various projects, the school was advised in April 2024 in the circumstances where there are Health and Safety concerns that the school should make an application for funding under the Emergency Works Scheme (EWS) to address any urgent issues with the roof as soon as possible. To date my Department has not received any EWS applications relating to this issue.
