To ask the Taoiseach and Minister for Defence to provide the number of staff vacancies, by grade, in his Department at the end of August 2023 and August 2024; and the number of staff, by grade, on a career break of more than five years and more than six years, at the end of August 2023 and August 2024. I can confirm to the Deputy that a total of 4 civil servants availed of a career break in 2023, 2 Executive Officers and 2 Clerical Officers and one further Clerical Officer availed of a career break in 2024, none of which exceeded a period of 5 years or more.
