To ask the Minister for Education and Skills the number of staff vacancies, by grade, in his Department at the end of August 2023 and August 2024; and the number of staff, by grade, on a career break of more than five years and more than six years, at the end of August 2023 and August 2024. In my Department, staff figures are recorded on a quarterly basis. The number of staff vacancies for Quarter 3 (up to the end of September) in 2023 was 34 and for Quarter 3 in 2024 was 43.
The staff vacancies by grades for Quarter 3 in 2023 and Quarter 3 in 2024 are set out in the following tables:

Regarding the question of staff in my Department taking career breaks for more than 5 or 6 years, my Department was established in August 2020 and there were no staff members on a career break of more than five years and more than six years, at the end of August 2023 and August 2024.
