The number of horses slaughtered to date in 2024 is 919. The licence of Shannonside Foods was revoked on animal welfare and equine traceability grounds; no horses have been slaughtered in Ireland since then and the plant remains closed. There is currently no equine slaughter facility on the island of Ireland.
