As the Deputy is aware, with effect from 10 July 2024 Irish visa requirements were applied to nationals of South Africa.

The Short Stay Visa Waiver Programme referred to by the Deputy, allows nationals of certain countries, who have entered the United Kingdom on foot of certain UK short stay visas, to travel to Ireland without the requirement to obtain an Irish visa. This programme is for those who are visiting the UK, to visit to Ireland before their permission to stay in UK ends, this is granted by an UK immigration official when they pass through UK immigration. This Programme cannot be availed of by persons who are permanently resident in the UK.

I can advise the Deputy it is open to South African nationals to apply for a multiple entry visa which is valid for a number of years, which may be more convenient for persons who intend to make frequent visits to Ireland.

If a person wishes to apply for a multiple entry visa, they must indicate upon application and pay the visa fee for a multiple entry visa. Multiple entry visas can be issued where a person can demonstrate previous compliant travel history.

Further information on the types of visas available is detailed on my Department's website at this link: www.irishimmigration.ie/single-multiple-visas/
