My department provides each of the sixteen Education and Training Boards (ETBs) with an administrative staffing allocation to support its schools, colleges, head office and other centres of education. In providing these supports, it is the responsibility of each ETB to recruit and manage staffing levels within this allocation and to deploy staff to specific roles in accordance with the priorities and needs as identified by the ETB.

There is no external job evaluation scheme in place for such staff in ETBs. However, a claim seeking the introduction of such a scheme has been raised at the ETB Industrial Relations Forum, which will, like any additional scheme with potential cost implications, be carefully examined by my department, in consultation with ETBs and the Department of Public Expenditure, NDP Delivery and Reform as appropriate.
