To ask the Minister for Education and Skills further to Parliamentary Question No. 607 of 9 September 2024, the number of students attending the autism unit in a school (details supplied) in the years 2019 to date, by year, in tabular form; and if she will make a statement on the matter. The requested information is set out in the table, data provided is for academic years 2019-2023, 2023 being the latest year we have final enrolment data.

Please note data is taken from the Primary Online Database for pupils enrolled in an ASD class as per the census date, 30th September, for each academic year.

Over 400 new special classes have been sanctioned nationwide by the National Council for Special Education for this school year. This brings to 3,338 the number of special classes in the country, 2,340 at primary level and 998 at post-primary level. 7 of these new special classed will open in Co. Monaghan. This brings to 54 the total number of special classes in Co. Monaghan for the 2024/25 school year.
