58. To ask the Minister for Transport, Tourism and Sport the reason bikes are now limited on commuter rail services from Naas to Heuston, given that the two spaces currently permitted to be booked in advance are costly and always booked putting commuters who get on the train at the latter stage of the journey at a disadvantage, with particular reference to those who work near Heuston and do not wish to bring their car into the city; if this matter can be examined with a view to reverting back to the old system; and if he will make a statement on the matter. As Minister for Transport, I have responsibility for policy and overall funding in relation to public transport; however, I am not involved in the day-to-day operations of public transport.

The issue raised by the Deputy is a matter for Irish Rail. Therefore, I have referred the Deputy's question to Irish Rail for direct response to the Deputy.

Please advise my private office if you do not receive a reply within ten working days.
