The Global Ireland Programme, which was launched in 2018, has strengthened Ireland’s global impact and diplomatic network. Since the launch of the Programme, 22 new missions have been opened to date, bringing our diplomatic footprint to 102 missions worldwide, with a further 5 new missions announced to open in the coming years.

The typical average operational cost of running a new mission is circa €1m per annum. This figure is largely dependent on the size and the location of the mission. In addition, there are once-off set up costs related to property/security in each location and these vary depending on the local operating environment.
