As the Deputy will be aware, my Department has a range of programmes available that provide support to organisations, among them social enterprises. In line with the National Social Enterprise Policy for Ireland 2019-2022, I take the term social enterprises to refer to businesses whose core objective is to achieve a social, societal or environmental impact.

The table below outlines details of social enterprise organisations and bodies that have been funded by my Department.

Year Name Amount
2021 Create €25,000
2021 Creggan Enterprise Ltd (Derry) €83,972
2022 Creggan Enterprise Ltd (Derry) 50,000
2023 Creggan Enterprise Ltd (Derry) €78,971
2023 Development Trusts NI €50,000
2023 Food Cloud €77,000
2023 Food Cloud €223,000
2023 Irish Association for Cultural, Economic and Social Relations €30,000
2023 Lifestyle Development Group CLG €31,075
2023 Mother Tongues €25,000
2023 Newry Credit Union €24,000
2023 Rural Action €37,385
2023 Social Enterprise Republic of Ireland (SERI) €25,000
2023 Spraoi agus Spórt Family Centre €20,251
2023 The Phoenix Education Centre (Belfast) €10,290
2023 The Phoenix Education Centre (Belfast) €35,290
2024 The Phoenix Education Centre (Belfast) €60,000
2024 Creggan Enterprise Ltd (Derry) €38,645

In addition to the social enterprise organisations listed above, my Department also assists NGOs, local community groups, educational institutes, youth organisations and local media organisations to promote understanding of the EU and Ireland's place in Europe under the Communicating Europe Initiative Scheme. Applicants are not asked to identify if they are Social Enterprise Organisations and so it is not possible to distinguish between SEOs and non-SEOs who have been in receipt of such funding.

The table below sets out aggregate figures for each of the years 2021 to 2024 with the total amount allocated and the number of projects supported under this Scheme.

2021 Communicating Europe Initiative Scheme 28 Projects €105,000
2022 Communicating Europe Initiative Scheme 25 Projects €91,500
2023 Communicating Europe Initiative Scheme 34 Projects €172,200
2024 Communicating Europe Initiative Scheme 44 Projects €244,000
