As the Deputy may be aware, the Summer Works Scheme (SWS) is to enable individual school authorities to undertake small-scale building works on a devolved basis and, ideally, can be carried out during the summer months or at other times that avoid disrupting the operation of the school.

In order to qualify for funding under the SWS, a school making an application must meet certain criteria including in respect of the property considered as part of the school's permanent accommodation. Where it is deemed that such property does not form part of the schools permanent non-rented accommodation then funding may not be provided under the SWS, however the option is open to each school to apply, and each case is examined on its own merit.

The SWS operates on a multi-annual basis for categories of works such as external environment projects, which could include works such as drainage works.
