The consultation process to review and assess the accessibility of the deposit return scheme (DRS) for people with disabilities and mobility issues is underway. This process is overseen by an advisory group comprising representatives from Disabled Persons Organisations, the National Disability Authority, Disability Federation Ireland, retailers, producers, Re-turn and my Department.
Re-turn has also appointed an independent contractor who is currently engaging with the DRS user and stakeholder community to gather data, evidence and insights on accessibility issues facing people who participate or wish to participate in the DRS. The first phase of the project is expected to be completed by the end of the year.
