To ask the Minister for Health his views on whether it is fair that an applicant for the long-term illness scheme diagnosed with type 1 diabetes (initially incorrectly diagnosed with type 2 diabetes through no fault of their own) was deemed ineligible for consideration under the scheme as they were not diagnosed with type 1 ‘from the outset’ (details supplied); if he will commit to having his Department thoroughly review the matter; and if he will make a statement on the matter. Under the Health (Pricing and Supply of Medical Goods) Act 2013, the HSE has statutory responsibility for decisions on the pricing and reimbursement of medicines and devices; therefore, the matter has been referred to the HSE for attention and direct reply to the Deputy.
