GP visit card eligibility was expanded last year under the GP Agreement 2023 from all children under 6 years to all children under the 8 years, with GP visit card eligibility for all children under 6 years having been introduced in July 2015.
Information on how to register a child for an Under 8s GP visit card is available from the HSE website and applications can be made online. Please note, as per the website, that young babies who do not yet have a PPS number can be registered for a GP visit card while awaiting their PPS number. The child's PPS number will be requested at a later date.
Where a person has an issue regarding the application or granting of a medical card or GP visit card, they can contact the HSE National Medical Card Unit for assistance.
