At present there are no state funded incentives in place for payments directly to fishing vessels to incentivise fish landings into Irish ports. Any such incentive is likely to be contrary to internal market rules.

Significant investment has been made in the infrastructure and facilities available at the State owned Fisheries Harbour Centres to support fish landings from both Irish and other fleets.

Funding supports for the fishing sector are provided under the Seafood Development Programme (SDP). The SDP is co-funded by the Irish Government and the EU Commission under the European Maritime, Fisheries and Aquaculture Fund (EMFAF) 2021-2027. To be eligible for funding all measures must be in compliance with the provisions of the EMFAF regulation, which in turns is aligned with the objectives of the Common Fisheries Policy (CFP).
