408. To ask the Minister for Agriculture, Food and the Marine his plans to enhance the powers of the agri-food regulator; if he has given consideration to correspondence from the office of the regulator with regard to the powers of compellability; if there are plans to review the operation of the regulator and the timeline for such a review; and if he will make a statement on the matter. Legislation allowing for the establishment of Ireland’s Agri-Food Regulator, the Agricultural and Food Supply Chain Act 2023, was signed into law on 11th of July 2023. An Rialálaí Agraibhia was subsequently established on the 13th of December 2023.

I can confirm that, on 12 September 2024, I received a report from An Rialálaí Agraibhia. The report recommended that I introduce additional Regulations under the Agricultural and Food Supply Chain Act 2023.

I am currently assessing the report and its related recommendation.
