Under the Teaching Council Acts 2001-2015 the Teaching Council is the body with the statutory authority and responsibility for the regulation of the teaching profession in Ireland including the registration of teachers in the State.
The Teaching Council registers teachers under the Teaching Council Act 2001-2015 and in line with the As set out in the Schedule of the Regulations, the Council registers teachers under five routes of registration: Route 1 - Primary, Route 2 - Post-primary, Route 3 - Further Education, Route 4 - Other and Route 5 - Student Teacher. The minimum registration requirements for each route are set out in the Regulations. The Department has no role in the registration of individual teachers.
The Council assesses applications for registration to ensure that the qualifications meet the standard required of all applicants, to uphold the high standards our education system is known for. In assessing qualifications all requirements are applied equally and transparently to all and that is an important principle
The Teaching Council has confirmed that the person referred to by the Deputy in this query has submitted an application for registration with the Teaching Council in May 2024. The Council is currently liaising with the applicant with respect to outstanding documentation that is required to progress the application.
The individual referred to by the Deputy is advised to continue to liaise with the Teaching Council and follow any advice or guidance that they may give on the matter.
Further information that may be of help to the applicant can be found on the Teaching Council website .
