Reclaimed Asphalt Programme (RAP) Pilot



This refers to the re-use of milled out tarmac pavement, whereby road maintenance is carried out using recycled materials previously used on other roads.
While not commissioned by the Department, this pilot is being undertaken by Monaghan CoCo with cooperation and funding support from the Department of Transport.



Estimated completion Q4 2025.
Pilot on Bio Binders.



Bio-binders are alternative asphalt mixes for road construction, replacing bitumen with organic materials to reduce carbon emissions and decrease the demand for fossil fuels.
While not commissioned by the Department, this pilot is being undertaken by Clare CoCo with cooperation and funding support from the Department of Transport.

Research Programme on Behavioural Science to Support Sustainable Transport Modes. Q3 2026
Network Safety Analysis – ongoing project which uses collision data to determine locations of interest (Loi’s) in each Local Authority, to assist in Low-Cost Safety grant applications. This is an ongoing project since 2021.
