The Rural Regeneration and Development Fund (RRDF) provides funding for the development and construction of capital projects in towns, villages and rural areas across Ireland.
Calls for applications to the Fund are sought under two categories – Category 1 and Category 2. Category 1 relates to large scale ambitious capital projects with all necessary planning and other consents in place and ready to proceed. Category 2 provides grant funding to enable the development of project proposals suitable for future calls for Category 1 applications.
In Carlow, RRDF funding of €3.5 million has been allocated to 4 projects. Of these, two projects are now completed, the Borris Railway Viaduct project and the Rathvilly Vision Category 2 project.
Carlow County Council was successful under the recent 5th Call for funding in their application for the School House Community & Enterprise Centre project in Rathvilly. On the 13th May 2024, I allocated funding of almost €2.2 million to this Category 1 project. This project will follow on from a previous Category 2 project and will redevelop the former school building in the centre of Rathvilly into a multi-purpose community hub.
I plan to announce a further call for Category 2 RRDF applications later this year.
The details requested by the Deputy are set out in the table below.
