To ask the Taoiseach and Minister for Defence further to Parliamentary Question No. 148 of 9 September 2024, the rationale for the Minister for EU Affairs being appointed as Minister for State in the Department of Defence, as distinct from any other Department; the reason this decision was not made earlier but was made in April 2024; and if he will make a statement on the matter. Jennifer Carroll MacNeill T.D. is the Minister of State in the Department of Defence. She is also Minister of State in the Department of Foreign Affairs, with special responsibility for European Affairs. She was appointed by the Taoiseach to these separate roles on 9 April 2024.

Peter Burke T.D. previously held both roles until he was promoted to Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment on 9 April 2024.
