The Shared Island Sports Club EV Charging Infrastructure Scheme was officially launched in February 2023 and is currently preparing to enter the delivery phase, where the final list of eligible clubs will progress to engaging charge point operators (CPOs) to prepare their sites for installation and undertake any necessary civil, electric and installation works for the proposed 50kW charging stations.

The applicant clubs have completed an initial assessment and site inspection which are being used to establish the actual suitability of the site for installation of a charger, with a final list of eligible clubs planned to be announced in September.

As the scheme has not yet moved to delivery stage, limited costs have been incurred to date.

Site inspections were undertaken by 4 market-procured suppliers with expertise either as a CPO or in a related field such as civil engineering consultancy. The amount paid to those suppliers for the inspection of all 247 clubs eligible at that time was €149,397.70.

The Shared Island funding required to undertake delivery under the Sports Club Scheme is set at a €15m allocation.

The current estimated end date for the scheme is Q4 2025.
