HSE National Pensions Payments are mandated to apply the regulations in force regarding abatement, specifically Department of Public Expenditure and Reform Circular 24/2022. As of 01/01/2023 they are obliged to calculate and apply abatement as laid down in this Circular.
I want to acknowledge and express our gratitude for the service provided during the COVID Pandemic. The COVID Pandemic abatement waivers were a temporary measure to enable retired staff to return to work at a time of crisis. The initial waivers issued to staff returning during the COVID pandemic ceased in February 2022 and then the circular of abatement regulations was issued in December 2022.
Abatement Waiver regulations are authorised by the Department of Public, Expenditure NDP and Reform and the Department of Health and HSE must adhere to same.
I trust this information will be of use to the Deputy.
