The trade in and the export of animals is a private commercial activity. This trade is regulated by European and National law which my Department enforces. My Department facilitates the lawful trade and export of animals in line with government policy and in compliance with EU and National legislation.

There are currently no plans to make the compliant export or trade within the EU of equine animals for slaughter illegal.
