As the Deputy will be aware, Youth Diversion Projects (YDPs) are community-based, multi-agency youth crime prevention initiatives which primarily seek to divert young people who have been, or are at risk of becoming, involved in anti-social or criminal behaviour. YDPs are run by community-based organisations and are a vital support to the statutory Garda Youth Diversion Programme.

In Budget 2024, the funding allocated to Youth Justice Services increased by 10% to €33 million, and a top priority for my Department is the expansion and deepening of the services offered to young people by the YDPs, which are fully funded by my Department. On average, the YDPs engage with about 4,000 young people across the State in any one year.

The table at the following link contains a breakdown of the funding allocated to Youth Justice for every year since 2008, and up to 6 September this year. Data for before 2008 is not available as financial reports cannot be run before that date.
