Invalidity Pension (IP) is a payment for people who are permanently incapable of work because of illness or incapacity and for no other reason and who satisfy the pay related social insurance (PRSI) contribution conditions.

The person concerned was awarded IP with effect from 09 March 2023 and received first payment to her nominated bank account on 16 November 2023. Her first payment on 16 November 2023 also included all arrears due to her in the period 09 March 2023 to 15 November 2023 less amounts she had already received from Illness Benefit and Supplementary Welfare Allowance paid during the overlapping period. The person concerned was notified of the decision in relation to her IP claim on 01 November 2023.

I hope this clarifies the position for the Deputy.
