Disability Allowance (DA) is a weekly allowance paid to people with a specified disability who are aged 16 or over and under the age of 66. This disability must be expected to last for at least one year and the allowance is subject to a medical assessment, means test and habitual residency conditions.
My Department routinely reviews claims to ensure ongoing entitlement. Following your inquiry dated 29 July 2024 regarding the DA of the individual in question, a thorough review of their DA payment was conducted. It was confirmed that the means were correctly assessed in line with the scheme rules.
On 31 July 2024, a letter was sent to the individual notifying them that the original decision made on 17 June 2024 was upheld. The letter detailed the assessment process, how household income was assessed and included a copy of the means assessment form. Additionally, the person concerned was informed of their right to request a further review or appeal the decision made on 17 June 2024.
I trust this clarifies the matter for the Deputy.
