Ireland enjoys good diplomatic and economic relations with the State of Qatar. Ambassador Milton in Abu Dhabi is accredited to Qatar, and presented her credentials to the Emir in May 2023. Ambassador Al Attiyah, who is based in London, represents Qatar in Ireland. There are now about two thousand Irish citizens registered as living in Qatar.
Qatar currently plays an important role in the conflict in the Middle East, including its efforts, alongside the US and Egypt, in facilitating ongoing negotiations on a ceasefire and hostage release agreement in Gaza and its engagement with Iran. I have discussed these and related issues on many occasions with the Prime Minister and Foreign Minister of Qatar
In 2022, the Qatari Minster of State for Foreign Affairs visited Dublin in February for political consultations with my Department.
