The main support available to students is the statutory based Student Grant Scheme. The Scheme provides for fee and maintenance grants to all students who meet the qualifying criteria such as means, residency, nationality and progression.
The Student Grant Scheme provides funding for students undertaking approved Post Leaving Certificate Courses, Undergraduate Courses and Postgraduate courses in an approved Higher Education institution.
As such, we do not have data on hand to confirm how many people may become eligible for SUSI if the scheme was to be expanded in the manner referred to by the Deputy and are unable to provide an estimate.
