As per Article 17(5)(b) of the Student Grant Scheme 2024, a student who already holds a qualification at or above Level 8 is ineligible to receive funding for attending a course at Level 8 of the NFQ or equivalent.
With regard to this specific application, I have been advised that the student referred to by the Deputy obtained Undergraduate Level 8 award from the IT Blanchardstown in Creative Digital Media in 2015/2016 academic year. The student is now pursuing another undergraduate Level 8 course for the 2024/25 academic year.
If an individual applicant considers that they have been unjustly refused a student grant, or that the rate of grant awarded is not the correct one, they may appeal, in the first instance, to SUSI.
Where an individual applicant has had an appeal turned down in writing by an appeals officer in SUSI and remains of the view that the scheme has not been interpreted correctly in their case, an appeal may be submitted to the independent Student Grants Appeals Board within the required timeframe (i.e. not later than 30 days after the notification of the determination of the appeals officer to the applicant). Such appeals can be made by the appellant on line via .
