22.To ask the Minister for Foreign Affairs and Trade further to Parliamentary Question No. 43 of 3 July 2024, if he will publish the actual feedback his Department provided to the International Protection Office on the potential designation of Algeria as a safe country; and, if not, the reason he will not publish this feedback. As outlined in Parliamentary Question No.43 of 3 July 2024, my Department provided comments on a number of potential factors including, domestic; security challenges; the asylum and protection framework; freedom of the media; women’s rights; and rights of minority groups. My Department drew on internal information and reports by partners on the ground to inform our analysis of the situation.
In considering the review of the list of safe countries of origin, the Department of Justice consults with a range of partners, including the Department of Foreign Affairs. As these comments were provided as part of a consultative process initiated by another Government Department, I do not plan to publish them.
