The Radiographers Registration Board in CORU (the Health and Social Care Professionals' regulator) was established on the 24 January 2012 to regulate radiographers and radiation therapists. The Register opened on 31 October 2013, and the titles radiographer and radiation therapist became officially protected on 31 October 2015. The number of radiation therapists registered for each of the years from 2014-2024 are listed below. Regarding the number of people working as radiation therapists in Ireland in each of the years 2014-2024, my Department has readily available numbers for the HSE (including the Section 38 voluntary hospitals). As of May 2024, there are 204 WTE radiation therapists employed by the HSE. This is an increase of 66 WTE from the 138 WTE employed back in December 2014.

Below is a table with a full breakdown of radiation therapists employed from 2014 to 2024.
