Fossil fuel subsidies were estimated at €2.9 billion in 2021. Direct fossil fuel subsidies were €0.3 billion in 2021 (10% of the total) while indirect subsidies arising from revenue forgone such as tax expenditures were €2.6 billion (90% of the total).
