Carer's allowance (CA) is a means-tested social assistance payment made to a person who is habitually resident in the State and who is providing full-time care and attention to a child or an adult who has such a disability that as a result they require that level of care.

An application for CA was received from the person concerned on 22 April 2024.

The Deciding Officer requested additional information in relation to the person’s application on the 24 April 2024.

The claim was disallowed on 27 May 2024 as the person concerned was working over the maximum hours allowed (18.5 hours per week).

The person concerned was notified on 27 May 2024 of this decision, the reason for it and of their right of review and appeal.

Following the receipt of updated employment information, CA was awarded to the person concerned on 09 July 2024 with effect from 06 June 2024 and the payment issued to their nominated bank account on 18 July 2024. Arrears of €620.00 for the period 06 June 2024 to 17 July 2024 issued on 09 July 2024.

The person concerned was notified on 09 July 2024 of this decision, the reason for it and of their right of review and appeal.

I hope this clarifies the position for the Deputy.
