1225.To ask the Minister for Employment Affairs and Social Protection where a farmer has a second house that is leased or rented as a permanent residence to a family member, whether they are assessed on the capital value or the value or the rental received; and if she will make a statement on the matter. In general, where a person owns another property, which is not their primary residence, and the second property is leased or rented, a means assessment will be conducted using the capital value of the second property.
The property must be capable of being sold, let or put to profitable use before a capital value assessment is applied.
I trust this clarifies the matter for the Deputy.
