The Croí Cónaithe (Cities) Scheme supports the building of apartments in urban cores for sale to owner-occupiers. The Scheme aims to bridge the current "Viability Gap" between the delivery cost of building apartments and the market sale price (where the cost of building is greater).
The Scheme launched on 10 May 2022 and there have been two calls for Expression of Interest undertaken to date. 37 applications have been received under the Scheme, 26 applications under Call 1 and 11 applications under Call 2.
To date, I have approved the Housing Agency entering into Designation and Development Agreements in respect of 640 apartments, with the remaining proposals still under consideration.
A breakdown of the 6 approvals is provided in the table below.
Scheme | Local Authority Area | No. of Units | Scheduled Completion Date |
---|---|---|---|
Dublin | Dun Laoghaire – Rathdown | 53 | 31/12/2025 |
Cork | Cork City Council | 68 | 30/11/2025 |
Cork | Cork City Council | 274 | 31/05/2026 |
Cork | Cork City Council | 30 | 31/11/2025 |
Dublin | Dun Laoghaire – Rathdown | 157 | 18/12/2026 |
Dublin | Dun Laoghaire – Rathdown | 58 | January / February 2026 |
Total | 640 |
In accordance with the terms and conditions of the Scheme, drawdown occurs on completion of projects and following the sale of apartments to owner occupiers.
A third call for Expressions of Interest is expected to issue shortly.
