My Department has no role in relation to the regulation of ticket sales for festivals or events. It is recognised that the booking and purchase of tickets for a great variety of events is arranged in most instances through service providers. These events include artistic performances, cultural exhibitions and presentations, sports activities to view or participate, product demonstrations, education and training opportunities, and a tremendous range of other activities organised on a community or commercial basis. The ticketing arrangements range from access without charge (to control attendance numbers) through to very substantial costs in respect of high demand events. In any case, these ticketing arrangements constitute an agreement between the parties and are subject to the general conditions of commerce, consumer protection and redress.
