The National Monuments in Co Louth, listed in the table below, are in State ownership and/or the guardianship of the Minister for Heritage.

The Office of Public Works (OPW) is responsible for the conservation, maintenance and presentation of 780 National Monuments in State ownership or guardianship including these monuments in Co Louth.

The OPW undertakes regular surveying at the sites across the County and undertakes planned routine conservation and maintenance as part of regular programmes of work. Separately, the OPW has ministerial consent for substantial conservation works now required at Castleroche Castle and these works will be advanced in the near future. There is scaffolding in place in another area of the castle due to stone collapse which requires further investigation.
