The building project for the school to which he refers will provide for the construction of a 41 classroom primary school as well as the development of a second and separate 8 classroom primary school on the same site. Special Education Needs classes are being provided for both schools. The project has been devolved for delivery to Galway & Roscommon Education and Training Board (GRETB) and it has appointed a design team last year to progress the project through the various stages of architectural design, planning, procurement and construction.

The larger primary school will facilitate the provision of accommodation for three existing primary schools which amalgamated and are currently operating on separate sites.

The Design Team are currently preparing the Stage 1 architectural report (preliminary design) and this will be reviewed by my Department officials once submitted.

The project will involve a very significant investment in the provision of new and very modern school facilities in Tuam and is very welcome. It is too early in the process to provide a reliable timeline for completion of the works. GRETB will update the school communities directly on progress throughout the project.
